Over the past several months the Foundation “VTTF” has been in and out of activity, due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. And, just recently fuel was added to the fire, when the volcano on Mainland-Saint Vincent “La Soufriére” erupted. The explosive eruption of this volcano started on Friday 9th April, 2021 and decreased in intensity just over a couple weeks later.
However, currently it is still being monitored before the all clear is given and some of the explosive eruptions effects still lingers. Ashes are still covering the communities directly affected, evacuees are still in shelters all over Saint Vincent, even primary and secondary schools are still inactive because most if not all schools are being used as shelters.
Being the main stage for the foundation’s coaching sessions, schools being inaccessible directly affects the foundation’s abilities surrounding table tennis. Schools are either occupied, unusable, shelters or damaged beyond short term repair. So, it may take a while before the VTTF can be back on point also with Covid-19 still lurking.
The foundation “VTTF” had two major projects schedule to take place ending of April this year in collaboration with the Mustique Charitable Trust “M.C.T” to be done at Chateau-Belair and Fancy Village. However, both locations were compromised by the eruption of the volcano, damaging structures and forcing residence to relocate. Projects will now be pushed to a later starting date, when requirements to begin have been met.
The current plan being looked at by the foundation: is to restart coaching sessions in patches, at available locations, where it is possible to create a control setting and fulfill the requirements needed to reduce the risk of contracting covid-19 following the measures put in place by the ministry of health in SVG.
